Super Genius Games

We play a lot of games in our house and, as a parent, I really appreciate any game that slips in educational value without the kids noticing.  This is my feeling about Super Genius card games from award winning game company Blue Orange Games.  I tried out Reading 1 set with my youngest son and found his desire to win was stronger than his realization that he was actually practicing sight words!  Super Genius games come in both math and reading sets, focusing on a certain level or function.   There are 3 math sets (Addition, Multiplication 1, and Multiplication 2) and 5 reading sets (Alphabet, First Words, Reading 1, Reading 2, and Compound Words), so you can find the one that best suits your child’s level.   Each set has 5 different game variations to keep things interesting for everyone involved.  The “genius formula” of these games means that there will always be a match between two cards, whether it be a picture matching a word for the reading sets or an equation matching a product or sum for the math sets.  These card games are the perfect summer day activity, giving kids something to do and helping them keep their skills moving forward instead of losing what they already have.  Super Genius Games retail for $12.99 a pack and can be found at Amazon or on the Blue Orange Games website,

Playmobil Travel Sets

Summertime often means lots of travel and it’s important when vacationing with kids to bring some toys along.  For over 40 years, Playmobil has created wonderful playsets that serve as a springboard for children’s imaginations.  Playmobil travel sets are the perfect combination of portable and “creativity inspiring” that kids want for on the go fun.  Their latest “Carry Case” sets come in a variety of themes including fashion boutique, police, and backyard barbecue.  Each set comes with 1 or 2 figures along with all kinds of associated accessories to set up scenarios and spark imagination.  And the best part of it all…everything fits easily into the case it all came in and clicks shut to keep pieces from falling out.  Easy to transport, easy to open, these sets are perfect for grab and go situations.  For a more substantial experience, try one of the “Take Along” Playmobil sets.   My kids and I got to try out the Take Along Police Station (top picture) and had a blast.  The scenarios they came up with when playing with these toys were awesome.  This set provided a police station, three figures, and tons of extras (everything from keys for the jail cell to a motorcycle for one of the officers).  And of course my favorite part…everything fit back into the building and folded up with a quick click to make it easy to transport without losing pieces.  One of the greatest features of Playmobil has always been their attention to detail and these sets do not disappoint (because what’s a backyard barbecue set without a grilling tool and hot dogs?).  Playmobil Carry Cases sell for between $9.99 and $14.99 each and the Take Along Police Station retails for $39.99.  Find these at Amazon, ToysRUs, and specialty toy stores.   See how big the world of Playmobil is at
